So much to do, so little time!

Wow, it's already crunch time and I'm so behind...as usual ! I managed to make a deadline for my HA 31 doll group, for this guy on the left.

Krampus, is a character originating from Teutonic countries and Germany. Apparently he is the bad side to Christmas ( I never new there was such a thing !)
The naughty list has to fall to someone to enforce, that's what the twig switch is for, and as if that wasn't enough to scar the little children for life, he is supposed to carry a basket on his shoulders to whisk away all those naughty kids !
Can you imagine, those poor kids must of been too afraid of Christmas to hope for anything other than not to be on the naughty list. All a bit too dark a theme for kids as far as I'm concerned.
But anywho this is my interpretation of old krampy, he's made of mostly vintage materials that I've had in my studio for a while. His body and wings are made of linen, the switch is from an old twig wreath that I took apart.

I've made his head out of paperclay over a vintage linen fabric and of course his fur was also from vintage left over halloween fabric. ( my son was a werewolf on year) I again used a dimensional medium over metallic and regular acrylics paints for his eyes.

He is string and button jointed at the shoulders and hips, for limited and gentle positioning, but cannot stand on his own.

Pompous Princess

I finished this doll last night and Blondie was kind enough to put it up on http://thehumblearts.com/. She is the "Snow Princess" So please stop by and have a look , as always, she comes with her own original ditty and my logo on hangtags and is signed and dated. She is an all cloth doll, the photos of her outfit don't show the beauty of the fabric that makes her dress, the skirt has sparkles on the fruit and candy printed on it ! Her jacket is a quilted velvet fabric that has a wonderful sheen and of course the thread used for the quilting is made of metallic gold thread! Really very pretty to see in person. I painted soles on the bottom of her shoes and placed ornamental tissue on top and when you read her poem you'll know why I called her a Pompous Princess in this post. Well I'm off to see what else is in my sketchbook , to get started on tonight. Oh yeah, the gourds!

My what a long nose you have!

It's been a while since I've posted anything, Grandbabies and life in general have a way of keeping you busy with more important " stuff " (and my house is still a mess!!!!), but I managed to finish my "Snow Princess" tonight, she was fun to make, although she also took longer than I expected her to.

These are photos I took as I was working on her, I think I got carried away with her nose length,..lol, but I kinda like the way it looks.... and she's not complaining, so it stays!

I wasn't too sure about making her a little dirty either, the white looked good too, I just wanted her to look a little different, so she's a "dirty/grubby" Snow Princess...and she's not complaining!

She does look a little sad eyed though, I'll have to do something about that on the next dolls I make.

Positioned, gessoed and hung to dry. Looks like she has a bit of some cellulite going on here!

I need to figure out how to stuff my dolls a little differently so as not to have that happen...it won't show anyway but it is a little bothersome.

She still needs a little more eye makeup, all in all I think

she looks pretty good and the antiquing came out better than I expected. I do like the long necks too, all my dolls seem to want to look upwards...some subconscious thing I suppose? and their heads tilt some, to the left, usually.

I'll have to put up more photos tomorrow.....or later.

sold! more gourd ideas

SOLD!!!....I like the way that sounds......SOLD!!!!! My Sugar Plum Fairy sold this morning at http://www.thehumblearts.com/, Time for me to say goodbye, wrap her up and send her on her way to her new home tomorrow. I still think it's a little odd how I start to miss my dolls before they're gone, but once they're gone I'm ok. I wonder if I'm the only one who does that?

So I guess it's a good thing that I'm working on another doll , and some gourd ornies. I have some old drawings, that I think might work for these little gourds, that I've had for about 2 yrs. I'll try and post the photos tomorrow sometime, cause I'm feeling a bit tired today and I don't think I want to attempt to put anything up and have to do redos.

Rich and Lucky

Every once in a while people come into our lives ........ ( or step out of it, but thats another story )......and we are made richer for it, YES it is VERY "cliche" but so very true. Although
I have never met this lady in person, I always sense a feeling of such goodness after we communicate, via the internet , and I'm always left feeling so enriched and so very lucky.
I have met other wonderfully sweet people, and I'm sure they know who they are, but the lady I speak of is "Blondie" aka B. Spencer. She is never without a kind word or some sort of encouragement and I'm sure she doesn't have to say anything kind but I suspect it's an intricate part of her, so she does. Everyone should have a " Blondie " in their life, and anyone who knows her will agree that I'm right about this..( that doesn't happen very often.) But I'm right on the money this time, just felt it needed to be said that's all... Thanks Blondie.

Big Silly Scare!

I really scared myself silly today, the deadline for my theme doll is tomorrow..i think...lol....
anyway I was on the Delphi forum and everyone was talking about the nutcracker theme for
The Humble Arts, this coming November. It started to dawn on me that maybe I was supposed to do a nutcracker!...OH NO!!!! Did I misunderstand?.........NAH, Whew!!!!, next time I'll ask, before I have a heart attack! This is my new doll, The Sugar Plum Fairy. She comes with a little ditty/poem, a vision in pink and gold and all things shiny and sweet!...(well to me anyway!)
She was one of those dolls that just didn't want to get borned! But apparently I wasn't the only one with that problem, seems like quite a few people were in the same boat. Anywho..she's done and I'm very glad about that. Just too many things going on in this month, it flew by so fast I'm surprised that I haven't missed Halloween altogether this year!

It's funny how attached you become to your own creations, at least I do! My "Studio" will feel a little empty, so I guess I should start on some new gourds, to fill their empty spaces. I have some sketches for new ones, different ones,... I have sketches for lots of things, and I don't really leave home without a sketchbook, that and at least 12 or so well sharpened pencils, all with new erasers. Actually it's not a real "sketchbook" ,just a composition book, one of many that I've coIlected from my children throughout the years, waste not want not! I try to sketch often, especially on long trips while my husband drives and there have been times when I could not get pencil to paper fast enough. But I do better at home, sitting on the sofa, trying to watch tv and missing most of whats going on, simply because drawing is sooo much better..sometimes! I misplaced one of my sketchbooks once and I was like a lunatic till I found it. I kept thinking all my art, all my ideas gone! I honestly don't think I'll ever have the time to create all those dolls, but just the thought of not having them was like I lost part of myself .... go figure. I'll

try to post a few of my sketches later, as soon as my son can help me

scan them, I'll do it.

A little help

It seems both my grandbabies are still in need of a little help with their breathing, so they will stay under the oxygen hoods for a while longer. But that's ok ,I didn't like seeing them struggle with each breath they took.

Avery seems to me, to be the stronger of the two, his oxygen levels have been pretty steady with no real dips in his saturation, even though he is only on 20% . Tristan on the other hand

fluctuates much more, he's on a little more oxygen than Avery, but it makes a big difference for him.

Tristan Mandy gets to go home today, being home always made me feel better, after my babies...so long ago...lol. I'm sure she's getting anxious to hold them, they curl their tiny fingers around her fingers as she talks to them while their eyes start to flutter open, only for an instant...It's hard being borned! All she and Jason can do is give them gentle kisses on their delicate little backs. Mom and Dad, I'm sure, will get a chance to sleep more comfortably if not better, in their own bed. I know you can't really rest well knowing that your babies are still in the hospital, no matter where you are.

I became a new grandmother to two beautiful baby boys on October 9th, @ 4:32 pm! WELCOME Tristan and Avery!!!!! Isn't this a great photo of my daughter, Miranda and sil Jason and of course my two little punkins! Jason said that both were taken out at the same time( two physicians) so there will never be " the older one " thing going on. I got to the hospital just in time to see Jason heading into the NICU with his precious bundles in each arm and tears in his eyes! Tristan and Avery were doing fabulous, but by Wednesday afternoon it became apparent that they needed a little help to breath, so they are now under a hood ,on 30 percent oxygen, Bless their sweet little hearts. The nurses there are so helpful and readily offered answers to each and every question we had, with proud papa there watching like a hawk, so my daughter and grandsons are in very good hands!

Just a note to tell you about this guy, he's my first "bumpy/wart gourd" art and I have him up for auction right now on ebay here

I'm very flattered, since she is a very talented gourd artist herself. Thanks Linda! He was part of a mass listing theme called " Frite Nite" for SEHA, one of my other Halloween groups. Just do a " SEHA " search on ebay and you'll find tons of goodies to buy and admire...so go see!
The other pic is of him as I was working on him, to show that he was indeed a gourd before he became " Black Cat " ( the name is so obvious and original too, dontcha think? ) He is signed and dated. I have two more gourd sculpts, but they aren't cats, and I will be listing them too, also with poems. So keep an eye out for them! I enjoyed the whole process of making him, but next time I'll buy the gourds already cleaned, although I don't think I remember seeing any cleaned wart gourds.?

"Merry Halloween" in progress

I said I would post the before pic's of my crackled,white pumpkin doll and here she is,the first one is my simple pattern, and a fun position, then painting ,then finished...with the painting. Now Jack, well I always have a heck of a time posting ( of course ) so photo's are even more of a problem ( I don't know why ) and I misplaced his progress pic's, so none for him!( Darn !) ENJOY!

October already

Hello again, I haven't done anything here for a while. I just need to update a few things one being that the baby Ava Grace silent auction is over! After a few minor kinks with it, it's all done and my angel " Hope"doll has been sent to the kind hearted winner and hopefully a very good home and loving owner. Thank you P. Robinson!

It's October already, it just doesn't seem possible that time can get away from me like this!

I keep going back to when I was a child...so many years ago.... and time seemed to go by at a snails pace. The weekends were the only days that were never long enough..ah to be a child again.....NO THANKS! I'll just keep that thought to myself.

If y'all haven't had the chance to go to http://www.thehumblearts.com/ , y'all should go, there is so much to drool over and I AM SELLING !!!!!!!!! YAY!!!! Got my fingers crossed!....eyes, legs and toes too for good measure......there is something for everbody, so whatcha waiting for?......GO already!!!!

Problems problems problems!

I had to re post my angel doll "Hope" posting! Silly me I tried to add Ad Sense and lost it....a bit of an oxymoron dontcha think?....Anyway it's back......But things are still out of order....that'll teach me.... and the comments were lost, just didn't know what else to do so I guess this is how it will stay. DUH! I did not lose the post ...they got archived..... !!!!!! Well at least she'll stay up front and center as a reminder!!!!

On a lighter note, I had my hair high lighted by my sweet niece Tina, HEY TINA !!!, who is a bride to be.

I wasn't too sure about the color but my dh Bill said it made me look younger.....HAHAHA...on the other hand my ds Walker said it made me look older....? go figure!

I told y'all earlier about my membership into the awesomely wonderful " The Humble Arts " group http://www.thehumblearts.com/, well these are the dolls I hope to sell there. I say hope cause people have to like them to buy them otherwise they just sit there....waiting to be adopted... they should be up for the beginning of Oct. The top doll is my pumpkin lady, her photo is not very good, as I said I do need photography lessons, she is about 25'' tall and the other one is my Jolly Jumping-Jack , now his photo is much better, he is about 18'' tall, they both look much better in person ! I'm not having any luck posting so I better go do something else. They were supposed to go below....as you can see they didn't.

Angel Hope doll



Hello, i guess this is a good time to begin this blog. I have been busy creating and this is the latest, of my creations....let me introduce you all to my angel "Hope'',she was created, due to the birth, of very special baby named ''Ava Grace'', who was born with pfeiffer syndrome, I was honoured to be allowed to be a part of this wonderful group of artist who are all donating time and talent to help defray hospital expenses for her and her family. I hope you all will see what a worthy cause this is and bid generously.Now I would like to tell you a little about my " Hope", she is an airdry, paperclay and osnaburg fabric doll , all handmade from my own designs with found objects, vintage fabric and lace, which was used to embellish her sweetheart neckline. I have used acrylic paints in soft muted tones to color her face, then she was given a light blushing of powdered mica. I also used mica flakes on her ''wings'', which are secured with silver colored cord high on her waist.Hope has individual fingers except for the middle two, with light pink finger and toenails, I have applied a spray sealer to protect her. Her eyes are also paperclay, painted with metallic acrylics and sealed with a dimensional medium. Around her neck she wears a silver colored metal heart shaped pendant with a starburst design in the center on a silver colored metal chain with a clasp.My angel at 23-1/4 inches tall, is made to be a shelf sitter, she does that with just a little back support or she can be displayed on a doll stand, she is not a childs toy and should not be treated as such.She was a challenge to make but I think she was worth it, she really is a sweetie and I hope she finds a good home.Blessings, Flora

Full swing

The silent auction is in full swing and there is one doll already up to 1500.00 +...WOW!!!!
Someone was very generous! It's all good, Ava Grace is a deserving child, I only hope there are more " generous" people out there keeping an eye on the auction and bidding with their hearts. The beauty of giving with your heart is that it somehow always seems to come back twofold, before you even realize it...it happens.
I was looking at all the lovely items in the auction and I was a little taken aback when I came to mine, I really need to get some photography lessons, or learn some photoshop techniques. That way if I screw up a photo I can at least manipulate it enough to make it look a little "artsy", everyone elses photos are fantabulous .....and then there's mine.. and I was so proud, I thought i was finally getting the hang of this
picture taking.....LOL!

Boney Skellyton

I finally did it! ( well my husband and I did ) we put up one of my dolls for auction. Introducing ..." Boney Skellyton" , He sure was in a hurry to be made, because from concept to creation it took me all Monday and half of Tuesday to get him done...good thing too cause I didn't have much time left to list him. I made him for my HYR group theme which is"skulls". If you scroll down to below the photo, you can click on the link to go directly to the auction and........BID!!!!! or just look.

He really is quite handsome ... in a strange sort of way and I'm sure he would look even better at Halloween, when he's on display. It would be just horrible if he couldn't find a good home by then.....

Below are the before photos of Hope, the one above is of her eyes being "cured". I know, I know, I was a little scared when i first saw them too, but i crossed my fingers and hoped for the best, what else could I do? They get crystal clear after the curing.

About Blog Title

It might have been a good idea for me to have explained my blog title before I did anything else , anyone looking at it might also think "what a bone head name!"...lol... I don't mind saying that at times my ideas are a bit ''bone headed'' too, but that's not why I chose the name. The real reason is that my son , who was around 3 at the time, had been helping me put up Halloween decorations and when we were finished, I asked what he thought of everything. In a quiet voice, with eyes wide open, he meekly said "I like ebby ting but dat bone head ober dare! " , as he pointed to my recent and most favorite decoration hanging from the ceiling. The " bone head" was a light sensitive, motion and sound activated skull, so once it got going it took a lot to stop it. The eyes would flash and the jaws would start clacking, then it would let out an eerie deep, sinister laugh as it bobbed all around. So you can imagine how scarey something like that might look to a 3 yr old.
I still have that "bone head" and I still put it up every Halloween, although my bone head isn't what it used to be anymore ( he's gotten kinda deaf ) he still has his old familiar place at the doorway. My son is becoming a young man now, all of 12-1/2 yrs , and ''old bone head'' became his favorite too.
