One wild and crazy night...

or one night with Ike. Whatever you want to call it , it's a night I don't care to repeat. We were some of the few who decided to "hunker down and stay put" fortunately we survived and are very thankful to my lord for sparing us from major damage, but no matter how much you prepare you always have a creeping realization that maybe this wasn't such a good idea?
That realization became abundantly clear at about 2:00 when the wind began to roar and the rain pounded on our home, Ike made his presence known. While my husband and son slept soundly, I tossed and turned, finally falling into a restless asleep in the wee hours of the morning....then our cell phones started ringing.
My parents and sisters and their families, who live in Freeport and were some of the first evacuees, decided to stop and stay for the night as they checked to see if it was ok to go home, giving my elderly parents some much needed rest and a bit of comfort food which always includes tortillas!!!
We all had tales to tell as we sat down for our meal, with much laughter and noise...all was right with the world once again...Please keep those not as fortunate as us in our prayers.

Flora! So glad you are ok! I am in the been there and done that category myself. Living in Virginia Beach, we have hurricanes come through here a lot. The last one to really shake us was five years ago, almost exactly to this day. We lost power for eight days, but sustained no damage to our home. We have the Elizabeth River behind the house, and the water came up to our deck, and then slowly began to recede....We all seem to cope with disasters and move on. Must be the human spirit! Take good care of yourself! I am glad you are doing fine.

Ginny,
We did flood almost to the day about 5 yrs ago, when tropical storm Allison came for a visit and decided to stay longer. we had 21 inches of water and the whole neighborhood looked like a lake, we canoed out of our home, with my mom who was recuperating from major surgery she'd had only a few days earlier...oh what fun!!! Thank you for your concern, I appreciate it emensely!

PG,
Thank you very much!!! The media at times does a great disservice to the viewing public,
Although there are some areas that were devastated, not all of us are in a bad way.

I am glad to hear everyone is safe. I heard it was awful.

I can proudly say that my brother left LA from that hurricane drove home to PA and within 24 hrs turned around and headed to TX to help restore power in Houston.

Stay safe everyone.
